The Elisabethenwerk

The Swiss Women’s League is a large women’s network with a Christian orientation. The Swiss Women’s League advocates for the rights of women in politics, society, and the church, and is politically independent. It promotes solidarity among women worldwide and is committed to achieving legal, social, and economic equality for women.

In 1958 the Swiss Women’s League initiated the Elisabethenwerk (St. Elizabeth Fund) based in Lucerne, Switzerland, to support women in the global South and combat poverty. The Elisabethenwerk is dedicated to fighting poverty through small-scale development cooperation projects. Guided by its principle "by women – for women," the organization focuses on empowering the most impoverished women in its two project countries, striving to enhance gender equality. At present, the Elisabethenwerk is active in India and Uganda.

Since its inception, the Elisabethenwerk has successfully completed over 2’300 projects across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
